Volunteering

Are you interested in volunteering with NATS-AID? Do you want to improve your leadership skills while networking with professors and other volunteers? Do you want to gain valuable experience and receive York University-branded reference letters for your future job, volunteering, scholarship or school applications? To be a Class Representative (CR), you must:

  • Currently be enrolled in a NATS course;
  • Reply to your professor's announcement indicating your interest in becoming a CR;
  • Be willing to undergo training with NATS-AID, which includes reading through orientation slides and other documents before attempting a contract quiz confirming your CR role;
  • Be available to answer administrative questions from students in-person during class time or online through email;
  • Be open to communicating and collaborating with your professor and classmates;
  • Hold a group study session at least once a semester before a midterm or exam.
  • Display qualities and skills such as punctuality, integrity, organization and politeness.

To be a Tutor, you must:

  • Have previously enrolled in a NATS course, achieving a minimum grade of A.
  • Reply to our faculty advisor's announcement indicating your interest in becoming a Tutor;
  • Be willing to undergo training with NATS-AID, which includes reading through orientation slides and other documents before attempting a contract quiz confirming your Tutor role;
  • Be available to answer course content-related questions from students through email, monthly drop-in sessions and 1-on-1 appointments (if requested);
  • Display qualities and skills of subject expertise, punctuality, active listening, flexibility, patience and empathy.
